POMONA-PITZER WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
CODE OF CONDUCT AND PLAYER CONTRACT
Details
- Be on time! Academic commitments are important, but you must communicate these in advance to the coaches. Make every effort to be at practice/meetings ready to go at the expected time. It is your responsibility to keep your coaches posted. Do not tell teammates to pass a message on to coaches.
- Follow through on assignments and respond to requests in a timely fashion.
- Once practice starts, the focus is on the team and your workout. Focus when you get to the field!
- Leave your cell phones in your bag/backpack. They do not need to be out/used at the practice area during practice time.
- We travel in uniform (jersey, shorts, pants, jacket). Look like a team!
- Abide by the Sports Medicine rules/CARW Center rules.
Things that are Important
- Respect your coaches, your teammates, your opponents and meet officials, Pomona-Pitzer athletics staff and the Claremont Colleges community
- No loud profanity (practice area, gym, traveling)
- Your work ethic defines you in this program.
- Take care of your health (sleep well, eat well, Training Room guidelines).
- Be grateful for the opportunity given to you by these colleges and the PP Athletics program. We do not have scholarships; you get to be on the team.
- When we are on the road, we exhibit exemplary behavior and show the utmost respect to our opponents (teams/coaches/facilities/institution)
- Understand how your behaviors affect others and take responsibility for your actions
- Be intentionally inclusive. Don’t be unintentionally non-inclusive.
Team Rules
- No drugs/illegal substances, including marijuana. No smoking cigarettes, including vaping.
- No alcohol, or being intoxicated, at: 1) any team function; 2) at any PP or CMS athletic facilities; 3) at any PP athletic event (home or away), including events outside our own season; 4) while wearing team gear or Pomona-Pitzer Athletics gear.
- Do not post anything on social media that reflects poorly on our team and PP Athletics.
- Represent our team in a positive fashion at all times, all year. You are a student-athlete every day.
- Behave in a way that shows respect for your coaches, your teammates, your opponents and officials, Pomona-Pitzer athletics staff and the Claremont Colleges community
- Prospective players/recruits are all underage and they should not consume any alcohol, drugs, etc. during their visit to campus. Recruit visits are about showing potential future team members the best of Pomona-Pitzer. Recruits must be with a team member at all times and should not be brought into situations that are inappropriate or could be uncomfortable for them. Use good judgment!
Hazing Policy
- We have a strict No-Hazing policy, as hazing is prohibited by your coaches, by the PP Athletic Department and by both Pomona College and Pitzer College.
- Hazing involves putting teammates into situations that are disrespectful, degrading, uncomfortable, or detrimental to their health and wellness – regardless of a person’s willingness to participate.
Implementation and Protocols
These rules are all based on the responsibility you have as a student-athlete on campus. You are an ambassador for this program and these colleges at all times, not just when you are wearing the jersey on meet day.
The successful implementation of our team policies is dependent on individual buy-in and group accountability.
Each player in this program has a role in monitoring these rules and holding each other to these standards. It is not just the job of the coaches and team leaders. We expect that any violation will be reported to team leaders as soon as possible. They will determine if the coaching staff needs to be involved, depending on the situation and the magnitude of the violation.
If you are involved in a problem, the coaches would rather hear it directly from you first. But understand and respect that your teammates and leaders have agreed to report violations in order to maintain the high standards and culture of athletic excellence that we have all committed to. Give each other permission to hold each other accountable. This system will only work if you are all on board with mutual accountability!
A violation of a team rule may result in a suspension(s), or, if applicable, an expulsion from the program. A violation may also include breaking a school policy.
If it feels wrong, it probably is wrong.
